We look forward to celebrating every milestone with you, from the first baby tooth to the first wisdom tooth and everything in between!

Why Are Regular Dental Exams and Cleanings Necessary?

As parents, we want to empower and support you in making the best oral health decisions for your child. One way is through routine dental exams and cleanings, which play a significant role in keeping your child's teeth and gums healthy. They allow us to address any concerns early on and can help mitigate the need for more extensive treatments. For example, removing plaque and tartar deposits during your child's cleaning appointments can lower the risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease. Through regular preventive visits, we can discuss individualized oral hygiene and dietary instructions with you and your child.

How Often Should Your Child Visit the Dentist?

Published guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend establishing a dental home when your child's first tooth erupts, but no later than the first birthday. Thereafter, we recommend having your child's teeth examined and cleaned at least every six months.

With every visit, Dr. Roshan and his team will track your child's dental development and provide guidance on what to expect in the coming years. By tracking your child's development early on, we can intercept any problems with appropriate and timely treatment.

What Happens During a Dental Exam?

Dr. Roshan and his team will greet you and your little one and ensure everyone feels comfortable and at ease. He'll ask you about any questions or concerns you or your child have. Next, he'll conduct a dental exam that involves thoroughly evaluating every aspect of your child's oral health, including the teeth, gums, tongue, jaws, and bite. The goal is to ensure that those pearly whites stay healthy and your child's oral development is on track to meet the next milestone.

Around age three, we may recommend digital dental x-rays using minimal radiation equipment and techniques intended to minimize exposure. Diagnostic x-rays help us identify early signs of problems, including tooth decay, missing teeth, lack of space, or teeth crowding issues.

What Happens During a Professional Dental Cleaning?

Our dental hygienist will gently remove any plaque and tartar deposits. We may recommend a fluoride treatment to strengthen the tooth enamel and address early signs of tooth decay. Most importantly, our team will demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques to help your little one maintain clean and healthy teeth and gums between dental visits.

What Happens Next?

Dr. Roshan will share his findings regarding your child's dental health and outline any concerns or needed treatments. He'll also discuss nutrition, fluoride usage at home, teething, pacifier use, and anything pertaining to your child's oral health and development.
