Hospital Dentistry

At Milestones Pediatric Dentistry, we prioritize your child's comfort, safety, and overall well-being. If your child cannot receive dental treatments in a traditional office setting, we offer safe and gentle care at our local hospital under the supervision of an experienced anesthesia and OR team. This collaboration with other medical colleagues allows us to provide exceptional comprehensive care for your child.

Is Hospital Dentistry Right for Your Child?

Our practice offers general anesthesia, both in-office and in a hospital setting. Dr. Roshan will recommend the safest and most comfortable treatment option depending on your child's unique needs. For children with complex medical or behavioral conditions or those needing extensive dental treatment for which a longer period under general anesthesia is required, treatment in a hospital setting may be the preferred choice.

General Anesthesia: An Overview

General anesthesia is a medically induced state where your child will not feel pain during treatment and will have no memory of the dental procedure. A pediatric anesthesia team with extensive experience will deliver the medications and monitor your child's vitals before, during treatment, and afterward while in recovery.

Preparing for Hospital Dentistry

It is critical that you disclose all medical conditions past or present with Dr. Roshan and the team at the hospital. Moreover, if your child develops cold or flu-like symptoms prior to their hospital day, we may need to reschedule the appointment. For your child's safety, please be sure to inform us about any changes in their health history or overall condition as soon as possible.

We'll provide you with guidelines, including food and fluid intake before and after treatment. We welcome any questions you may have, and we're here to alleviate your concerns. Keep in mind that your child will feed off your emotions, so talk to them in a calm and reassuring voice. Explain the process in simple terms that are easy for your child to understand. It is important to avoid frightening words that will only increase your child's anxiety.

Make sure your child gets ample sleep the day before treatment and has time to recover at home after the hospital visit. Children typically resume their normal schedules within 1-2 days.
